All these twisted, rounded rocks, weathered into amazing shapes.... You draw such amazing pictures of them all!

What kind of stone are your mountains made of? Are they sandstone, or old lava, or what?

I've never seen anything like them, but I live in the US, where most of our mountains are either sharp-edged upthrust peaks like the Rockies or Tetons, or the more rounded and tree-covered old mountain ranges like the Ozarks and Appallachians.

Thank you! I'm glad you like it. The geological history of the Crimean peninsula is just as rich and exciting as its human history, so to speak. Most of what is now Crimea is made of nummulitic limestone , and the three ranges of the Crimean Mountains are predominantly cuesta type. We have a few places where fossilized lava is found, and a rock made of very ancient Permian limestone a few kms south of my house. Nummulitic limestone is comparatively soft, hence the amazing natural "Sphinxs" and grottoes, as well as "honeycombs" as a result of wind and water corrosion.

Wow, are those tiny people at the top...with a flag?  Are the rocks really that big?!  Great job, BTW.  I love your use of mixed media.  The black ink lines with the colors works really well.

So I went to the wikipedia page, and it's got a bunch of your pictures.  Did you create that page...or just upload the images?

Thank you. The rocks are pretty tall, and some daredevil climbed all the way to install a red Communist Party flag on top) You can see a few more works I did there using this search string: www.deviantart.com/?qh=&se…

Yes, I did upload some of my works to Wikipedia Commons under Creative Common License, so the authors of the articles are free to use them.

That is a good photograph of it...I presume there is an easier way to get to the top than climbing up the front of it!!!

You have to be very careful mountain-biking. When I climb up and down a mountain or a rock, I do it on foot, just pushing the bike along.
